2023 Music in the Park Series Begins June 28

The 2023 Columbia Heights Music in the Park series hosted by Northeast Bank kicks off on Wed, June 28, with The Changeups! All performances take place at Huset Park East from 6:30-8 pm except for the Aug 9 event (11 am to noon).

Food trucks and the Columbia Heights Lions Club selling beer (cash only) will be in attendance except for the Aug 9 event.

June 28 - The Changeups | Food truck - The Big Red Wagon

About the Changeups:
Alternative Americana rock band, The Changeups, are based in Minneapolis fronted by vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Alicia Kay (also bassist of Bethany Larson & The Bee's Knees).  The lineup consists of co-founder and guitarist/songwriter Jimmy Baker (Crazed Individuals, Eddie Mac), as well as drummer Aaron Rosener (Matt Jennings, Unclick), and bassist Jeff Ellington (The Fake McCoys, The Roosevelts).  Their various backgrounds as rock, country, R&B, folk, and punk musicians make for a distinct sound changing the song style throughout a performance.  Alicia’s emotional lyrics and twangy heartfelt singing trickled in with Jimmy’s fun pop songs charm any audience and is loved by fans of Neko Case, Lucinda Williams, and Lydia Loveless.

July 12 - Pan Dimensions | Food truck - Caribbean Tasty  

About Pan Dimensions:
Pan D is a musical duo comprised of Lance Pollonais and Chico Harris. Born and raised in Trinidad, Lance learned to play pan at an early age. By age nine he was competing in local pan competitions and his passion for pan has continued to grow. The pan (commonly referred to as a “steel drum”) is a very fundamental part of the musical culture in the Eastern Caribbean.  Chico Harris has been playing percussion for many years and became a part of Pan D in 2022. With a repertoire that covers everything from jazz standards to calypso classics, the sound of the steel pan is both relaxing and compelling.

July 26 - Fridley City Band | Food truck - D's Kitchen 

About the Fridley City Band:
Fridley City Band has enjoyed playing for Twin Cities audiences with a wide variety of music since 1961.  Based in Fridley, and performing a range of Broadway show tunes, medleys of favorite pop tunes, familiar classical concert band pieces, and marches, the Band has appeared at Como Park Pavilion in St. Paul, Hopkins Raspberry Festival, and concerts in Faribault, Zumbrota, as well as local parks and senior residences.

Aug 9 - The Jolly Pops (11 am to noon) | Free freeze pops, while supplies last

About the Jolly Pops:
The Jolly Pops (Chanhassen, MN) combine upbeat, original music with a host of children’s standards for a concert that is sure to please kids and adults alike. Take a fun ride with the Happy Dads and their puppet friends as they sing about alligator dancing, popsicles, trains, pet dinosaurs…and everything in between!

About Steve West and the Northern Stars:
Steve West and the Northern Stars have been playing in the Twin Cities for most of the last two decades. Playing popular and classic, family-friendly songs from the 50s through today with a few tasty originals thrown in.
