New Waste Collection Services Start Jan 1

This October, the City Council chose not to renew the City’s contract with Waste Management and instead approved a joint contract with Walters Recycling & Refuse and Haulstar Sanitation. Since driver shortages and the collection process in alleys are ongoing issues, the two companies will split the workload to cover all of Columbia Heights.

Beginning in January, Haulstar will provide weekly trash service as well as bi-weekly recycling service to all homes that currently have their collections in alleys. Walters will provide trash and recycling services to all homes with curbside collection. The joint contract covers a 4-year term, with a 1-year extension option. The City also recently approved a 4-year contract with College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving for bulk pick-up services.
