368 Face Masks Donated this Saturday, Thank You!

Residents Donated 368 Homemade Facemasks this Saturday to Help With PPE Shortages
Thanks so much to everyone who donated their homemade face masks to the Fire Department this Saturday! We received 368 masks! These masks will be sanitized and then delivered to local congregate care facilities short on personal protective equipment.

Due to ongoing demand, a donation bin will continue to be accessible in the lobby of the Public Safety Building for anyone who wants to donate more masks.

Thank you!

Donation Drive Background
To help deal with the current medical mask shortage, Minnesotans were asked to create and deliver homemade masks to their local fire departments on Sat, April 25, from 10 am-2 pm. Fire departments will then deliver the masks to local congregate living facilities for their employees and residents to wear.

The Columbia Heights Fire Department, 825 41st Ave NE, placed a marked receptacle inside the front vestibule of the Public Safety Building to accept masks.

The building itself is still closed to the public at this time. Fire Department staff were not be present in the vestibule, but they helped monitor the drive. Afterwards, masks will be left untouched for a period of time and then washed prior to distribution.
