Sign Up Now Open for Two Summer Youth Art Classes
Kids are encouraged to get creative this summer with Columbia Heights Recreation.

Sign up is now open for two unique opportunities at Murzyn Hall that will give kids a chance to stretch their artistic wings this June and July

Pollinator Mural Project
In this class, kids will help design and create murals for the two metal park benches that sit outside of the Park and Recreation office at Murzyn Hall.

Kids will also help design and create a mural for the trash receptacle that sits between the two benches. Mural imagery will be focused around the important role that pollinators play in the environment (bees/butterflies/bats/birds). Kids will learn the artistic process of designing and creating a public work of art as well as the role that art can play as an advocate for the natural environment.

Where: Murzyn Hall, Edgemoor Room downstairs
When: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, June 12-July 6, 1-4 pm
Fee: $5
Activity # 2405-18

This session is for kids in 5th grade and up. Space is limited, so sign up soon!

Upcycled Art
Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming waste materials, or unwanted products, into art.

In this session, kids will explore the idea of upcycled art and create a variety of different works using items typically discarded. Reusable T-Shirt bags, collage art with bottle caps, magazine bowls and cardboard sculptures are just a few of the art pieces that kids will construct.
