NEW YARD WASTE STANDARDS AND ORGANICS COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS
A major change to the yard waste standards is:
- The only containers allowed for yard waste collection is a City provided yard waste/organics cart, or a compostable bag. Household owned reusable containers will not be emptied by the hauler.
Curbside organic collection highlights:
- Columbia Heights residents now have the opportunity to recycle organics (food scraps and food-soiled paper) at their property in dual purpose carts for both yard waste and food waste.
- Households will also receive a free kitchen starter kit and the required bags for organics disposal.
- City Solid Waste Policy requires all food organic materials be securely contained in a BPI-Certified compostable bag and disposed of in the City provided carts without exception.
Please email the Public Works Department at Publicworks@columbiaheightsmn.gov to order a Yard Waste/Organics cart.
