BUILDING OFFICIAL

Position Overview:
The Building Official is responsible for ensuring compliance with the building, plumbing, and mechanical codes and related regulations and standards.  Work involves responsibility for plan review and inspection of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and other structures in regard to conformity with code requirements and technical standards.  Work also involves determining building permit valuations for inspected construction projects.  Provides direction and support to, and works closely with the Secretary II – Permits and Licensing and the Building Inspections Intern.  General administrative supervision is received from the Community Development Director and the Community Development Manager.
    
Required Qualifications:
A combination substantially equivalent to high school graduation and post-secondary training in the building trades and considerable experience involving a wide variety of residential, commercial, and industrial construction. Three years of experience as a Building Inspector. A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, architects, engineers and residents. Certified Minnesota Building Official, or the ability to obtain within the first six months of employment. Valid Minnesota Driver's License.

Desired Qualifications:    
Five or more years of experience as a Municipal Building Inspector. ICC Certificate as a Building Inspector and/or Plan Examiner. Delegation Authority from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry to perform plan reviews and inspections of Public Buildings and State Licensed Facilities. One-year of supervisory experience. Fluent in a second language.

Wage Range:                 
$6,108 - $7,190/month plus fringe benefits (2018 rate)

Hours:                             
8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
