Every other week organics pickup will begin the week of November 30th and continue until the end of March.   Move compost carts to the alley for service starting November 30th.    2020-21 Winter Organics Calendar

Robotic Arms Used for Curbside Pickup
Waste Management now uses trucks with mechanical arms to collect trash and recycling.  They are using this truck in the alleys as well.  Residents should place carts out where the arm can reach it and allow some space between the carts.  Refuse pads are a convenient way to accomplish this and the City will add these, by request, to the annual concrete work schedule.  Contact Public Works for specifications and pricing.

Call 1-888-960-0008 if there are any items outside of the cart so arrangements can be made to collect those as well.  Alley, “walkup,” and yard waste/organic services are not affected.

Food Waste

Food is being wasted at an alarming rate.  Uneaten food ends up in a landfill.  Instead of throwing food waste away, prevent it in the first place.  Anoka County provides tips for healthy meal planning and how to keep food fresher longer to help reduce food waste.

Community Challenge
As part of a community challenge, if we can collect 500 pounds of  film plastics and Styrofoam in a six month period Trex will donate a plastic park bench to the City of Columbia Heights.  Residents can drop off film plastics and Styrofoam at the Recycling Center.  Please help us with this challenge!

Five-Year Refuse Contract
The City Council approved a new refuse contract effective January 1, 2018.  The 5-year contract was awarded to Waste Management.  The City also included additional recycling services and RBMPs (Recycling Best Management Practices) in the contract for bulk recycling (furniture, mattresses, carpet), unlimited every other week single-sort recycling, and organics commingled in the yard waste cart on the curb.  All other services in the contract remain the same.  The City now owns all carts in the field.
