Anti-Bullying Reading

Since 2009, the Columbia Heights Police Department has teamed up with Highland Elementary to address bullying with kindergarten, first and second graders. Officers and staff members went into the classrooms twice a year and read a book that provided an important message about bullying to the students.

Since then, the program has expanded to include Valley View Elementary, Immaculate Conception School, and Global Academy. In 2016, we also began visiting third grade classrooms at the request of the schools. We had 21 employees participating in our anti-bullying program. The visits also provide the young students with an opportunity to ask any questions they have and meet with an officer in a positive interaction.
