Which holidays affect trash and recycling collections?
The City of Columbia Heights contracts with Veolia ES for garbage collection service and only the major holidays alter their schedule; they are: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. When these holidays fall on a weekday, collections are one day late, following the holiday.
Where is the Police Department and what are the office hours?
The Police Department is located in our new Public Safety Building at 825 41st Avenue Northeast in Columbia Heights. Hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. An emergency 9-1-1 call box is located just inside the vestibule for after hours, and connects to Anoka County Central Dispatch, who can summon an officer after hours if needed.

Who do I call about a sewer back-up?
If wastewater is backing up only when you are using water, the plug is likely in your service line and you should call a qualified sewer cleaning contractor to service the line.
If wastewater is backing up when no water is being used in your building, the City sewer is probably plugged and you should call the City immediately. When in doubt, call the City first.

When are leaves and yard waste picked up?
Yardwaste collections begin the first week of April and end the last week of November or the first snowfall, whichever is first.

Which projects require a building permit?
Permits are required for re-roofing, decks, fences over six feet high, retaining walls over 48 inches, storage sheds 120 square feet and over, and any remodeling or new construction. Do I need a pet license for my dog and cat?
Yes, licenses can be purchased at City Hall, at the information counter. Two un-caged animals per household are allowed.
Can I obtain a copy of a police report?
Police reports are available upon request during normal business hours by filling out a "Request for Information" form. Allow 72 hours to process reports and requests for copies. There is a $5 fee for each report. Reports regarding juveniles are not released. Requests may also be made in writing to:

My car got towed; what should I do?
Bring the title or proof of ownership, your driver's license, and proof of insurance to the Police Department at 825 41st Avenue Northeast. A release form will be issued, which will allow release of the vehicle from the contracted towing service. The towing fee, plus any storage and incidental fees, must be paid to the towing service.
I got locked out of my car / home; what should I do?
You will need to call a locksmith. Most locksmiths offer 24 hour service and they can access your vehicle without damaging the sensitive electronics that are now in most cars.
What are the parking restrictions in Columbia Heights?
- No parking on city streets 2:00 am to 6:00 am, November 1 to April 1.
- No parking on city streets after a 3" snow fall until street is plowed curb to curb.
- No parking on city streets for longer than six hours.
A city snow plow damaged my boulevard. Will the City repair the damage?

The courthouse, serving all of Anoka County, is located in the City of Anoka at 325 East Main Street. There is a parking ramp behind the courthouse and small public lots just off Main Street. Large street signs give directions to public parking areas.
Can I renew my driver's license or buy car tabs at City Hall?
